Time and planet Earth

After the comparison of the two patterns, the celestial astronomical one and the view of the inner and outer pavement of the Tholos, it has been made clear, that it is not just a beautiful, decorative design. All the numbers are codified and can be decoded, taking into consideration their relation with the planet earth.

a. The unique white stone indicating the essence of number One.

b. The number seven of the seven orbits of the planets, including the motion of the moon.

c. The number fourteen of the Corinthian columns, indicating the number of days of the full moon.

d. The number twenty six of the Doric columns, indicating the 26.000 solar years of the Precession of the Equinoxes.

It is obvious that the three time cycles (a., b. and d.) are directly related to the planet earth. The most important time cycles that affect our planet are four (Plato’s Timaeus 39C – E), three of which are due to the earth’s motion and the fourth to the rotation of the moon around the earth.

The sun is not the cause of any cycle creation on earth. Only the motion of both earth and moon give rise to the time cycles. These cycles are the cause of human external activity (farming, cattle rearing, navigation etc.), as well as internal religious services (religious acts on the occasion of the full moon, the equinoxes, the solstices etc.).

Taking into consideration the fact, that what happens in nature has always a start and a return to the same point over the same period of time, it allows the intellect to discern the details, which will help it lead a more coordinated life, according to the laws of nature. Especially, if the intellect experiences the corresponding internal processes of nature with awe and respect, it will participate in the planetary motion and will feel the harmony of the same flow, which accompanies the cycles of the four seasons.

The harmony of the soul, arising from the thorough knowledge of the effect of the natural cycles, resulting from the motion of the celestial bodies (including earth and moon), must be the reason why the astronomical pattern of the Tholos is located in a healing center and not in an astronomical observatory.

The four most significant cycles according to Plato’s Timaeus (39C) are the following:

a. The day and night cycle of the earth, as well as that of the other planets as portrayed on the pavement of the Tholos with the “alternation of white and gray slabs”.

The formation of day and night is due to the dark planetary bodies with their rhomboidal, elliptical orbits, as they rotate around the white, round stone (sun). The earth rotates together with the rest of the planets. In other words, the earth resembles them, indicating that it is not the earth that stays motionless in the center of the Monument, but the sun. After all, with its whiteness the round stone implies, that the sun is the source of light and life of the entire Planetary System.

The sun is the cause of the alternation of day and night on the other dark, rotating bodies that surround it, yet it is the rotation of the planets (dark bodies) that cause their respective day and night.

The white stone in the center cannot represent the planet earth, as our planet is a dark body and not a white one. It would remain cold and dark, if the light and life giving sun didn’t exist.

b. The monthly cycle of the moon is denoted with the symbolic number fourteen of the days of the full moon. The synodic month of the moon is 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes and 2,9 seconds. The stellar month is 27 days, 7 hours, 43 minutes and 11,5 seconds. The number fourteen of the columns, plus the number fourteen of the inter spaces, equals 28. This is a symbolic number of the days of the monthly cycle and the approximate average between the two - the synodic and the stellar month cycles of the moon.

c. The solar year of 365 days, 6 hours, 9 minutes and 9,5 seconds is marked on the Tholos pavement with the coded number of 360 + 1. All ancient people added the extra 5 and ? days every four or five years, depending on the celebrations and ceremonies they wanted to establish, in order not to interfere with the alternation of the seasons, which would alter their calendars. This coded number (360 + 1) involves a complicated and remarkable addition, which becomes noticeable, when taking into consideration all the features on the pavement, as it will be shown here below.

d. The cycle of the Precession of the Equinoxes (26.000 solar years) is symbolised by the Doric colonnade of the 26 columns.
